Quill Bullock, Zeagan Stafford and Joseph Dziura, kids division winners

Sunday, June 2nd, 2024, was a beautiful sunny day with temperatures in the 80s, and a spectator crowd of a few hundred.

Racers started at 12:15 with the kids class, six in total, each of whom ran two heats. In the end, Zeagan Stafford came in 1st Place, edging out Joseph Dziura by 1/4 of a second. Joseph came in 2nd Place, and Quill Bullock came in 3rd Place.

By race time, we only had one teen racer, Myra Glabach, who got to go down the race hill twice with no competition, snagging 1st place in that division.

Competition in the adult division was steeper, with ten racers making it down both times. Two carts scratched, with one racer having to leave, and the other colliding with another racer after the first heat finish line, bending the axel beyond repair. In the end, the winners were Jonathan Bodenstein, Chris Glabach, and Brian Ware from Montague, New Jersey! He says he's coming back with friends next year.

The race committee would like to thank all the sponsors, the volunteers, and of course the racers, for making it such a successful day. Everyone had a great time, and the Montague Parks & Rec Department made about $3,700 from the event.

Committee, Sponsors, Volunteers, and Pizza!

Montague Soapbox Races Volunteers at the end of the day, after loading 125 bales of hay back on the trailers

The race committee consists of Race Director Dan Burke, Montague Parks & Rec Director Jon Dobosz, Mik Muller, Seth Rutherford, Peter Chilton, Turners Falls Firefighter Luke Harnett, and retiring Town Administrator Steve Ellis.

Thank You to our 2024 Race Sponsors: WATERWORKS of Nantucket, Greenfield Savings Bank, REXEL, Rueter Foundation Repair, Turners Falls Airport, Hale Custom Signs, Montague WebWorks, NOVA Motorcycles.

Local manufacturer 253 Farmacy donated much-needed volunteer help, both for the morning setup and afternoon clean-up. We'd like to thank co-owners Seth Rutherford and Chris Gallant, as well as Elizabeth Castro Sanchez, Samantha Brosca, Tyler LaPointe, Khrystal Smith, Debra Cloutier, and Michelle Kellogg for all their hard work throughout the day.

Russ Brown returned as Race Announcer, as did Race Statistician Jennifer Peterson from Montague Rec. Mik Muller helped out with race history and commentary, and this year they were briefly joined by Bill Roche, who drove all the way from Sydney, NY, to shadow the volunteers to learn how to run a race. They will be hosting their own next year!

Thank you to Turners Falls Airport for lending us an ATV to tow the carts, and the four radios that helped with communications. Thanks also to Dan Burke for the water for volunteers. It was a long hot day, and we would have been in bad shape without that water. Thanks also to Turners Falls native and boxing champion Sonya Lamonakis for donating 20 pizza pies to the volunteer crew.

Finally, a huge THANK YOU to new Race Director Dan Burke for doing such a stellar job in bringing this event together. Awesome job, and we look forward to next year!
