Get yourself ready for the 2021 racing season!
After an eight-year hiatus, Soapbox Races are returning to Montague. A new committee consisting of several local business owners and town staff have pulled their talents and resources together to bring the excitement of gravity racing back to Unity Park, Turners Falls.
The race date will be on the same weekend as in the past: Sunday, September 19th, 2021.
Proceeds from the race will benefit the Montague Parks and Recreation Camp Scholarship Fund.
Three age classes -- kids, teens and adults -- as well as a few artistic categories.
Other new features under consideration will be community events, such as showing special Derby-related movies at the Shea Theater, like Herbie the Love Bug, Cannon Ball Run or Rat Race, as well as a Turners Falls sidewalk sale on the day of the event.
In advance of the race date the planning committee will hold special meetings for a Racers Q&A, and another for local businesses to brainstorm how they may tie-in.
MCTV will video and televise, as usual, with DVDs sold to raise funds for their programming efforts.
More details will be announced as they emerge.
